1.- Download and write Retropie image

Download Retropie from https://retropie.org.uk/download.

Then use a card reader to rewrite our SD card using a tool such as Win32 Disk Imager.

2.- Install and update emulators

Install extra emulators at the Retropie main menu

Update all the packages

3.- Install Joystick driver

Install Joystick driver:

– Go to RetroPie setup menu

– Manage packages

– Manage driver packages

– Select option “817 mkarcadejoystick” and install

4.- Customize mkarcadejoystick driver

Edit the driver configuration:

– Connect a keyboard

– Exit to Emulation Station with F4 or via menu

– type: sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/mk_arcade_joystick_rpi.conf and then ENTER

– modify the line inside to: options mk_arcade_joystick_rpi map=5 gpio=2,3,4,17,9,10,22,27,11,24,23,25

– exit saving changes by pressing CTRL+X on the keyboard, then press Y and then ENTER

5.- Install the driver for the rest of the buttons

Install retrogame driver by following the instructions at https://learn.adafruit.com/retro-gaming-with-raspberry-pi/adding-controls-software

The steps are:

– Connect a keyboard

– Exit to Emulation Station with F4 or via menu

– type curl -O https://raw.githubusercontent.com/adafruit/Raspberry-Pi-Installer-Scripts/master/retrogame.sh

– type sudo bash retrogame.sh

– choose option 3 in the menu shown

– edit the config file typing sudo nano /boot/retrogame.cfg

– edit the file so it only contains these 3 buttons:

ESC 8 # Esc key

F1 7 #PAUSE

5 18 #COIN

– exit saving changes by pressing CTRL+X on the keyboard, then press Y and then ENTER

6.- Configure the emulators

Configure the emulators to exit with ESC key and pause with F1. Configure MAME to insert coin for player 1 and 2 with ‘5’ key
